Why You'll Love this Recipe
There is nothing like a nice stack of homemade waffles. It's more special than say, french toast, and on weekends with the whole family around, who in their right mind wouldn't want cinnamon apple waffles?
Waffles with Apples check all the boxes of deliciousness, and are made with simple ingredients. These are wonderful year-round, and tastes a bit like apple pie!
Here's a few good reasons to make them:
This is one of those easy apple recipes, meaning - there's no egg whites to whip into peaks and fold into the waffle batter, and the warm spice of the apples is a flavor everyone seems to love.
The cinnamon apples and amazing all by themselves, make some extra to put on yogurt!
Brunch is a great way to eat these waffles too, with scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, and a platter of fresh fruit.
Peel the apples, then slice them into large pieces, then cut each large piece into quarter inch thick slices. You can make chunks of apples if you prefer.
Melted butter goes in a non-stick skillet with the apples.
Add the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and mix to combine.
Close the lid, and stir gently and cook on medium heat until the apples are soft and syrupy. Stir in the pure vanilla extract, then transfer to a medium bowl until the waffles are cooked.
Next, heat the waffle iron.
Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl with the eggs, then spoon the waffle batter in and cook according to the waffle maker directions until golden brown for slightly crispy waffles.
Serve the hot waffles with the warm caramelized apples.
If you're feeding a crowd, place waffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and keep them warm in a moderate oven until serving.
This cinnamon waffle recipe looks wonderful on a big, white platter, randomly stacked. Spoon the warm cinnamon apples with some of the sauce over the top, or put the apples in a separate bowl and serve alongside.
Scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and hot coffee are natural partners to these amazing waffles.
Try a dollop of vanilla yogurt on top of the apples with a little sprinkle of cinnamon to finish off the presentation.
Or, skip the yogurt and go straight for a good quality vanilla ice cream for breakfast OR dessert.
Smoothies would be nice if you're doing a bigger breakfast with all the fixings I put a variety in smaller glasses for fun.
TIPS:
If you plan to make these for say, Sunday brunch, just pre-measure the ingredients the night before so they're ready to go. This is an easy batter with no stiff egg white peaks to fold in, so it comes together quickly.
The sauteed apples can be made a couple days in advance, and they keep well in an airtight container in the fridge. Re-heat them in a sauce pan with a tablespoon of water to loosen them up, or warm them for a minute or two in the microwave.
Make these waffles gluten free by subbing the all-purpose flour for a gluten free blend.
Use dairy-free milk if you like! I love toasted coconut almond milk, but use your favorite.
Try a drizzle of maple syrup over the top right before serving.
