Equipment

  • 1 Medium sized saucepan
  • 1 metal or heatproof bowl to fit inside the saucepan
  • 1 large baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • rubber spatula
  • knife

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Semi-Sweet Chocolate see note
  • 8 ounces White Chocolate
  • 1 cup Pretzel Sticks, Salted
  • 2 cups Assorted Seasonal Candy See note

Instructions

  • Prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
To melt the chocolate, make a double-boiler by using a medium saucepan and filling it with it a few inches of water. Bring to a gentle boil (medium heat, not a rolling boil.)
Place the metal bowl (or heat safe glass bowl) inside the saucepan. The bowl should comfortably sit in the saucepan without touching the water.
  • Next, place the semi-sweet chocolate in the bowl and let it sit for a few minutes to melt. Stir occasionally with a rubber spatula until the mixture is smooth.
Carefully remove the bowl out of the saucepan (use a towel to catch any hot water drippings) and stir the chocolate a few more times.
Pour the chocolate down the middle of the parchment-lined baking sheet, then spread it into a nine or ten inch rectangle. Let it cool completely by placing it in the refrigerator or freezer for 15 minutes, or setting it in a cool place for about 30 minutes.
  • Once the chocolate is set, repeat the process with the white chocolate by melting it and pouring it down the middle of the chocolate layer, and spreading it into a smaller rectangle. The two chocolates will mingle and melt a little.
Next, place the pretzels and seasonal candy in decorative shapes all over the top. Let it cool completely before breaking it up with a knife and serving.

Notes

  • You can use a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe, but note that a typical bag weighs under a pound, so you'll need about a bag and a third.
  • Use any combination of seasonal candy that you'd like.  I'd suggest a combination of chocolate candy, hard candy like conversation hearts, a jelly bean variety for color and a gum drop type of candy.
  • Use sprinkles too, if you'd like.
