Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • large baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper
  • heatproof bowl that fits inside saucepan to met chocolate
  • Fork
  • paper towels

Ingredients

  • 16 Oreos or similar style of creme filled sandwich cookie See note
  • 6 ounces White Chocolate
  • 6 ounces Milk or Dark Chocolate
  • Assorted sprinkles and crushed candy canes for garnish See note

Instructions

  • Prepare a large baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.
Place a few inches of water into a medium-sized saucepan and bring it to the boil. Set a heatproof bowl inside the saucepan that has a few inches of space to it, you don't want the bowl touch the water.
Add the white chocolate first and stir it occasionally over medium heat until melted.
Remove the bowl (use a dish towel to hold the sides) and transfer it to a flat surface. Use a paper towel underneath the bowl to prevent slipping.
  • One at a time, dunk a cookie into the melted chocolate, and using a fork, gently lift it out, tapping the edge of the bowl to release any excess chocolate.
Transfer the cookie to the prepared baking sheet to cool. Let it set for just a minute, and while it's still melted on top, add some sprinkles of your choice.
  • Repeat steps with the milk or dark chocolate. No need to wash the bowl where the white chocolate was first.
Place the cookies in a cool spot or in the refrigerator to chill and completely set for 30 minutes before serving or packaging for gifting.

Notes

  • Use any brand of creme-filled sandwich cookie you like.  The mint flavor is really nice with these, but any flavor will be delicious.
  • Try other types of colored candy melts such as green, pink...whatever color of candy melt you want can be found on the Internet and are easy to use.
