Ingredients You’ll Need
For the full recipe and list of ingredients, please scroll to the recipe card below.
- Lemon and Orange: We’ll use the zest and the juice.
- Olive Oil: Extra Virgin is best for salad dressing.
- Seasonings: Simple! Freshly ground black pepper and kosher salt.
- Dijon Mustard: The flavor booster in this dressing.
- Pure Maple Syrup: Get real maple syrup for great balance for these strong flavors.
Step-By Step Instructions
- Simply zest half of the orange, then cut it in half and measure out some of the fresh juice.
- Squeeze the juice from one lemon – just a tablespoon. TIP: Roll the lemon with the palm of your hand on the cutting board to get the most juice out of it before cutting.
- In a small bowl, add the zest, juice, olive oil, seasonings and maple syrup. Use a whisk or fork to combine the ingredients, then drizzle the olive oil in a steady stream while whisking to combine everything.
- Alternatively, add all the ingredients to a small glass mason jar with a tight-fitting lid, and shake until combined.
Tips and Possible Variations
- You may want to add another teaspoon of maple syrup to the dressing, depending how tart your citrus is.
- Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt comes in a big box, is inexpensive, and is the preferred salt of many chefs and home cooks. It’s less salty than other salts, so if you have it, use a full teaspoon. If you don’t, start with a half teaspoon and continue the recipe. If you feel it needs a bit more overall flavor, add another pinch of salt.
- Experiment with other citrus such as tangerine or mandarins to explore different flavors.
