I once overheard someone at a cocktail party say “there’s nothing worse than a chocolate-dipped strawberry.”
I get it.
For those of us that remember the 80‘s, (cough, hack) the chocolate-dipped strawberry conjures up a cheesy Valentine’s Day dessert or ultimate girls-night out stretch limo experience.
On the way to the Disco. Where they played Disco music. And men wore shiny shirts, unbuttoned to reveal chest hair.
Perhaps male strippers were involved, I cannot really say 🙂
Accompanied by a glass of cheap champagne, chocolate-dipped strawberries were usually short on flavor and kind of messy.
I am here to inform you that a chocolate-dipped strawberry can be wonderful and even special when you use great ingredients.
We start with beautiful, juicy, organic strawberries. We swirl them in warm, best quality chocolate. We double swirl, if we feel like it.
We sprinkle lavishly with big toasted coconut flakes, smoky almonds, chopped salted pistachios, little white pearl candies, sprinkles, and honey roasted peanuts.
After the strawberries cool down and the chocolate sets, we spend some time admiring them. They are almost too pretty to eat.
We even take a picture to remember later how good they were, and promise to make them again for our next brunch or cocktail party, or girls night out.
Gather up some supplies and get creative! You’ll have fun and everybody loves them.
1 pound organic strawberries
6 ounces milk chocolate
6 ounces white chocolate
Chopped salted pistachios
Chopped honey roasted peanuts
Unsweetened flaked coconut, toasting is optional
Chocolate, multi-colored, and white sugars and sprinkles
Line a cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper.
Carefully rinse the strawberries in cool water and dry them with a paper towel, being careful not to disturb the stem. Set aside while you melt the chocolates.
Place the milk chocolate in a heatproof bowl and place over a saucepan filled with a few inches of water. Simmer on medium heat until chocolate starts to melt, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and continue to stir until smooth. Do the same with the white chocolate.
The chocolate can also be melted in a microwave, using a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds at time, stirring with a spoon regularly until the mixture begins to melt. Continue to heat and stir until smooth.
Carefully hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it in the warm chocolate, then in the nuts or sprinkles, and set it on the wax or parchment paper. Sprinkle more nuts or sprinkles on each berry if you’d like, to taste.
Mix and match the chocolates and toppings to make a variety.
The chocolate will set after 30-45 minutes. Or, place in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes until they are completely cooled before serving.
